20 Jan 2008 - Community Garden

On a very wet afternoon fourteen friends of Mary Considine, past secretary of the Community Association, met in the Community Garden to remember Mary on the weekend when she would have had her Birthday.  A Rowan tree had already been planted with a commemorative plaque, 'A Rowan for Mary'.  Her friends toasted her memory in Elderflower Wine, followed by a few words and everyone sprinkled a handful of wild bird seed around the tree, as Mary was a great bird lover.

Although the garden workers are taking a short winter break from their work, garden seats and a litter bin have been ordered with the remains of the Awards for All grant and plans are going ahead for an arbour seat and rustic bench.  The spring bulbs are showing their heads and all the plants seem to be surviving.
