16 Jun 2008 - History of Kilgetty meeting

Thirty three residents of the area turned up for the first meeting to bring together memories of Kilgetty.  Many had brought along photographs, old receipts and other information, which everyone was keen to see.

David Pugh welcomed everyone and started off the meeting by suggesting a 'walk' in our minds through the village to start off the proceedings.  This brought a rush of memories of shops and personalities and David, along with a couple of others, to note down as much information as possible.  Joan Thomas had brought along some of the information that she and Non Williams had discovered on a course with SPARC, which was based in Begelly but had a lot of information about Kilgetty too.  Joan Beynon also had quite a collection, especially to do with the old Co-op store.

After a break for refreshments, we resumed our 'walk' down Station Road and under the railway arch to the end of Carmarthen Road.   What a lot of memories flooded in.

It was decided to hold monthly meetings with the next being on Monday 21st July.  It was suggested that we have a large map to enter things on, also that to split into groups to talk about different aspects of the village.

A camcorder account was suggested.  David thought a small exhibition of all that is discovered would be good in the future, as would the making of a small booklet.
